Kalles Kaviar is a Swedish cultural staple and one of the country's most iconic food exports. Launched in 1954, it is a creamed, smoked cod roe spread traditionally served on bread, crispbread, or boiled eggs. The brand is instantly recognizable by its distinct blue and yellow tube featuring "Kalle," a young blonde boy based on the son of the company's then-CEO.

Historically, the product was created by the Swedish food company Abba Seafood. Today, the manufacturing remains centered in Sweden, specifically at the Abba factory in Kungshamn. The production process adheres to sustainability standards, often carrying the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) certification for its source of cod roe.

Ownership of the brand transitioned when Orkla, a major Norwegian conglomerate, acquired Abba Seafood in the 1990s. Under Orkla's stewardship, Kalles has maintained its position as a market leader in Scandinavia while expanding its availability internationally through specialty retailers and Scandinavian food sections globally.
