AVIA is a unique international fuel brand that operates differently from major global oil conglomerates. Founded in Switzerland in 1927, the brand was established when independent fuel importers joined forces to create a collective brand that could compete with larger multinational corporations while maintaining their independence.

Today, AVIA functions as an international association comprising more than 90 independent companies across Europe. These companies operate gas stations and distribute fuel products under the AVIA logo. Because the brand is managed by regional member companies, the fuel is sourced from various refineries and distributors across the continent, meaning the specific manufacturing or refining origin depends on the local market where the fuel is sold.

The brand is overseen by AVIA International, headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. This body ensures brand consistency and quality standards across its network of over 3,000 gas stations, making it one of the largest independent fuel networks in Europe. In the Netherlands, the brand is managed by Coöperatie AVIA Nederland U.A., which coordinates the local activities of independent member companies.
