Satsuma Ware Vase

Satsuma ware is a distinctive type of Japanese pottery that originated in the late 16th century, during the Edo period. The brand and style take their name from the Satsuma Domain in Kyushu, where Korean potters originally established the craft under the patronage of the Shimazu family. This particular style, known as 'Gosai' or polychrome enamel, became world-famous during the Meiji era following its successful exhibition at the 1867 Paris World Expo.
