Lambretta is an iconic Italian scooter brand that rose to fame post-World War II as a symbol of style and mobility. Originally created by the Innocenti company in Milan, Italy, in 1947, it quickly became a global cultural phenomenon and the direct rival to Vespa. The brand's name is derived from the Lambro River, which flowed near the original manufacturing factory in the Lambrate district.
After the original Italian production ceased in the early 1970s, the brand's intellectual property and manufacturing rights underwent several changes. Today, the modern Lambretta brand is managed under a joint venture between the Swiss-based Innocenti SA and the Austrian KSR Group. While the design and heritage remain deeply rooted in Italian aesthetics, the actual manufacturing for global markets is primarily carried out in high-tech facilities in Southeast Asia, notably Vietnam and China, to ensure modern performance and reliability standards.
In recent years, the brand has seen a significant resurgence with models like the V-Special, G-Special, and X-series. These scooters are often assembled or distributed through regional partnerships, such as with Dynamic Motors in Thailand, targeting a new generation of riders who value both vintage heritage and contemporary technology.
