BookWyrm

BookWyrm is an open-source, decentralized social networking platform designed for reading enthusiasts to track books, write reviews, and interact within the Fediverse. Unlike centralized platforms, it is built on the ActivityPub protocol, allowing users on different instances to communicate seamlessly with one another and with other services like Mastodon.

The project originated as an alternative to corporate-owned book platforms, prioritizing user privacy and community-led moderation. Because it is a community-driven open-source project, its code is developed and maintained by a global network of contributors rather than a single manufacturing entity. The ownership is decentralized; individual instance administrators own their local data and servers, while the overarching software development is managed by the original creator and the community.
