Founded by Harry Roberts and Leslie Bidmead in London, the company initially gained fame for its high-quality portable radios and eventually earned multiple Royal Warrants, becoming a staple in British households and even the Royal family's residences. The brand is most famous for its 'Revival' series, which retains the classic 1950s aesthetic inspired by a handbag.

While the brand maintains its British heritage, design, and administrative headquarters in Chertsey, Surrey, manufacturing moved from the United Kingdom to East Asia following global shifts in electronics production. Today, most Roberts products are engineered in the UK but manufactured in China to remain competitive in the global consumer electronics market.

Since 1994, Roberts Radio has been a part of the GlenDimplex Group, an Irish-headquartered multinational that is one of the world's largest manufacturers of electrical heating and domestic appliances. This ownership has allowed Roberts to expand its technology into the digital age, incorporating DAB, internet streaming, and Bluetooth connectivity into its vintage-inspired designs.
