Grov is one of Sweden's oldest and most traditional snus brands, known for its coarse grind and robust tobacco character. Originally launched in 1872 by the manufacturer Willhelm Hellgren & Co, it was created to provide a more rugged alternative to the finer grinds of the era. The brand's name, which translates to 'coarse' in English, reflects this signature texture.

Throughout the 20th century, the brand became a staple of the Swedish tobacco market. Production remains centralized in Sweden to maintain the strict quality standards of the GothiaTek quality seal, which governs the levels of harmful substances in the product. The manufacturing process involves air-cured tobacco, salt, and water, adhering to traditional recipes that have remained largely unchanged for over a century.

Today, Grov is owned and manufactured by Swedish Match. In 2022, the tobacco giant Philip Morris International (PMI) acquired Swedish Match through a multi-billion dollar takeover. This transition placed the brand under the ultimate ownership of a global tobacco leader headquartered in the United States, though the manufacturing and brand heritage continue to reside firmly in Gothenburg, Sweden.
