Monnet Cognac is a prestigious brand of French brandy with a history dating back to 1838. It was originally founded by a group of vineyard owners as the 'Société des Propriétaires Vinicoles de Cognac'. In 1897, Jean-Gabriel Monnet took control of the company and gave it his name. The brand is famous for its salamander logo, which symbolizes the brand's resilience and the fire used in the distillation process.

While the brand was historic for its association with Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of the European Union, its ownership changed hands multiple times during the late 20th and early 21st centuries. After being part of the Hennessy and later LVMH group, it was acquired by Hine in the 1980s. Today, the brand is owned by the Godet family through their company, Maison Godet. The production remains strictly within the Cognac region of France, adhering to the strict Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) regulations.
