Salomon was founded in 1947 in the heart of the French Alps by François Salomon and his family. Initially focusing on ski edges, the brand evolved into a world leader in outdoor sports equipment, including trail running and hiking footwear. While the brand carries a strong French heritage, its manufacturing today takes place in multiple countries including Vietnam, China, and India to accommodate global demand.

Starting as a family business, Salomon was later acquired by Adidas in 1997 before being sold to the Finnish group Amer Sports in 2005. Today, Amer Sports is part of a consortium led by Anta Sports, a major Chinese sporting goods corporation. This global ownership structure allows Salomon to maintain its focus on high-performance alpine engineering while leveraging international supply chains and distribution networks.
