Veuve Clicquot is one of the most prestigious and historic Champagne houses in the world, founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot. The brand rose to global prominence under his daughter-in-law, Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, who became known as 'La Grande Dame' after becoming a widow at age 27. She revolutionized the sparkling wine industry by inventing the riddling table to clarify wine and creating the first known vintage Champagne.
Today, all production remains centered in the Champagne region of France, specifically in Reims, where the wine is aged in ancient chalk cellars (crayères). The product is manufactured exclusively in France to maintain its protected 'Champagne' designation (AOC). Since 1987, the house has been a flagship brand under the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton group, representing the pinnacle of the luxury beverage market.
