Knorr is a globally recognized food brand that originated in Germany in 1838. Carl Heinrich Knorr founded the company in Heilbronn, initially focusing on drying chicory for the coffee industry. The brand later pioneered dehydrated vegetables and seasonings, leading to the creation of the iconic bouillon cubes seen today. Knorr's meat bouillon (Köttbuljong) is a staple in many European kitchens for seasoning and base-making.
The manufacturing of Knorr products is distributed across various international sites to serve local markets efficiently. In Europe, many bouillon products are manufactured in facilities located in Italy or other regional hubs. Ownership of the brand rests with Unilever, a British multinational consumer goods company that acquired Knorr in 2000 through its purchase of Bestfoods. Unilever continues to manage Knorr as one of its leading 'billion-euro' brands globally.
