Åsnes is a legendary Norwegian brand with a heritage dating back to 1922 when the brothers Kristian, Hans, and Peter Åsnes began crafting wooden skis in Straumsnes, Norway. For decades, the brand became synonymous with polar exploration and rugged backcountry skiing, famously used by explorers like Roald Amundsen and modern adventurers like Cecilie Skog.
While the brand's heart and design headquarters remain in Norway, its manufacturing has transitioned from local production in Straumsnes to a global model. Today, Åsnes skis are primarily manufactured in the Czech Republic and other European facilities known for high-tech wood-core and carbon fiber ski construction.
Since 2006, Åsnes has been part of the Brav Norway AS portfolio (formerly Swix Sport AS), which is a major player in the international outdoor apparel and equipment market. Brav itself is owned by Ferd, a large Norwegian investment company, ensuring that the brand remains under Norwegian ownership as it continues to innovate for both traditional mountain skiing and modern alpine touring.
