Marabou is one of Scandinavia's most recognized chocolate brands, originally founded in Sweden in 1916. The brand was established by Henning Throne-Holst and named after the Marabou stork. While it began as a Swedish chocolate manufacturer, its success led to it becoming a household name across the Nordic region, including Denmark.
Today, the Marabou brand is owned by Mondelēz International, a massive American multinational confectionery and food company. Mondelēz produces Marabou products in various locations, primarily in Sweden (at their factory in Upplands Väsby), but broader product lines like cookies and bakery items are often produced across several European manufacturing facilities to serve the international market. The ownership transition occurred in the early 1990s when Mondelēz, then known as Kraft Foods, acquired the brand.
