Porto Alegre is a prominent Brazilian dairy brand founded in 1991 in the state of Minas Gerais. Originally starting as a small cheese producer in Ponte Nova, it has grown significantly to become one of the leaders in the dairy market in Southeast Brazil. The brand is well-known for its wide range of milk products, including cheeses, butter, and yogurts.
In terms of ownership, the brand underwent a major transformation when the Swiss dairy giant Emmi Group acquired a majority stake in Laticínios Porto Alegre. This partnership integrated local traditional Brazilian production with Swiss global standards and technology. Today, it operates as a combined effort between the founding family and the Emmi Group, maintaining high-quality production facilities primarily within the Brazilian dairy basins of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.
