Distraneurine is a pharmaceutical product containing the active ingredient clomethiazole. It is used primarily as a sedative and hypnotic, often for the management of alcohol withdrawal symptoms and sleep disturbances in elderly patients. The brand was originally developed by the Swedish pharmaceutical company Astra AB (which later merged with Zeneca to form AstraZeneca).
Manufacturing of Distraneurine is typically decentralized, but a significant portion of the production for the European market occurs in facilities in Germany. Ownership of the brand has transitioned over the years. Currently, Cheyenne Pharma and other specialized pharmaceutical logistics companies handle various region-specific rights, but the brand itself is fundamentally linked to the legacy of Astra. In the Spanish market, it is distributed and managed under the current ownership structure of specialized medicine providers who acquired specific legacy brands from larger conglomerates like AstraZeneca.
