Aral fuels

Aral is Germany's leading fuel retail brand, with a history dating back to 1898 when it was founded in Bochum as Westdeutsche Benzol-Verkaufs-Vereinigung. The brand name 'Aral' was established in 1924, inspired by the combination of 'aromatics' and 'aliphatics' which comprised the world's first super fuel invented by the company. Over the decades, Aral became a household name in Germany for high-quality fuels and lubricants.

In 2002, the brand was acquired by bp (formerly British Petroleum) as part of its takeover of Aral's parent company, Veba Öl. Since then, Aral has served as bp's retail face in Germany. While the brand is quintessentially German in origin and culture, it is now part of a global energy portfolio. Most of the fuels sold are refined in Germany at various refinery sites, but the ultimate corporate steering and ownership reside in the United Kingdom with bp plc.
