The Lamy 2000 is an iconic writing instrument originally designed in 1966 by Gerd A. Müller. It is widely considered a masterpiece of Bauhaus-inspired industrial design. The pen is characterized by its seamless construction, a semi-hooded 14k gold nib, and its use of Makrolon (a reinforced fiberglass polycarbonate) alongside brushed stainless steel accents.
Starting from its inception in Heidelberg, Germany, the Lamy 2000 has been engineered for pure functionality without unnecessary ornamentation. To this day, the product continues to be manufactured at Lamy's specialized facilities in Germany, ensuring high standards of precision and craftsmanship. The brand remains under the ownership of C. Josef Lamy GmbH, which was recently acquired by the Mitsubishi Pencil Company in 2024 to further its global reach while maintaining its German design heritage.
