La Trappe is a renowned Dutch Trappist beer brand, founded in 1884 at the Onze Lieve Vrouw van Koningshoeven Abbey in Berkel-Enschot. It is one of the few beers in the world allowed to carry the 'Authentic Trappist Product' logo, signifying that it is brewed within the walls of a monastery under the supervision of monks.
While the brewing traditions and the site itself are owned by the Abbey, the commercial operations and production are managed through a partnership with the Bavaria brewery (now Swinkels Family Brewers). This collaboration, established in the late 1990s, allowed the monks to focus on their religious life while professionalizing the distribution and technical production of the beer to ensure its long-term survival.
All La Trappe beers are produced solely at the De Koningshoeven Brewery in the Netherlands. The brand remains under the ultimate stewardship of the Swinkels family, one of the oldest independent family businesses in the Dutch beer industry, while maintaining strict adherence to the requirements of the International Trappist Association.
