Twist is a famous Nordic confectionery brand consisting of a variety of bite-sized chocolates with different fillings. It was originally launched in Norway in 1957 by the chocolate manufacturer Freia. The brand quickly gained popularity across the Scandinavian region, launching in Sweden in 1958, Denmark in 1963, and Finland in 1964. The name 'Twist' refers to the distinctive way each individual piece is wrapped.
While originally produced in Oslo, Norway, the manufacturing of Twist was moved in the mid-1990s to the Marabou factory in Sweden. Today, the brand is owned by the multinational food conglomerate Mondelez International, which acquired Freia's parent company in 1993. Despite its international ownership, Twist remains a cultural staple in Scandinavia, with Norway remaining its largest market.
