The Yates brand is one of the most iconic names in Australian gardening history, founded by Arthur Yates in 1887. Originally starting as a seed business in Sydney, it grew to become the leading provider of garden care products in Australia and New Zealand. Over the decades, the company expanded its range from seeds to fertilisers, pesticides, and gardening tools.

In 2001, Yates was acquired by Orica, becoming part of the DuluxGroup. Today, Yates remains a key brand under the DuluxGroup umbrella. The DuluxGroup itself was acquired in 2019 by Nippon Paint Holdings, a Japanese multinational company, which serves as the ultimate global owner of the brand. Despite the international ownership, Yates continues to manufacture many of its products, including the Thrive soluble range, within Australia to serve the local gardening community.
