The Davidoff brand carries a legacy of luxury that began in Geneva, Switzerland, under the stewardship of Zino Davidoff, often referred to as the 'King of Cigars.' Originally a tobacco specialist shop founded in 1926, the brand gained international acclaim for its high-quality Cuban cigars before shifting production to the Dominican Republic in the early 1990s following disputes over quality and ownership with the Cuban state.
Today, the brand's ownership is split across different sectors of the tobacco and luxury goods industry. The flagship cigar and pipe tobacco business is owned and operated by Oettinger Davidoff AG, based in Basel, Switzerland, which manages manufacturing facilities in the Dominican Republic and Honduras. The cigarette brand, however, was sold to the British multinational Imperial Brands (formerly Imperial Tobacco) in 2006. Additionally, a separate entity known as the Zino Davidoff Group licenses the brand name for lifestyle products such as fragrances, watches, and coffee, ensuring the Davidoff name remains synonymous with high-end luxury across multiple consumer categories.
