Cauldron is an open-source, lightweight framework designed for rapid prototyping on high-performance graphics APIs like Vulkan and Direct3D 12. Developed internally by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), it serves as the foundational architecture for many of the company’s FidelityFX SDK samples and technical demonstrations. The framework is built to simplify the complexities of modern GPU programming, providing developers with pre-integrated tools for resource management, texture loading, and windowing.

The project originated within AMD's GPUOpen initiative, a strategy launched to provide game designers and software engineers with open-source access to tools that optimize performance on Radeon hardware while maintaining cross-platform compatibility. It is widely recognized in the PC gaming industry as a key educational and development resource for mastering low-level graphics APIs.

Today, Cauldron remains under the stewardship of AMD. Since its release as an open-source project under the MIT License, it has been maintained by AMD's global engineering teams, primarily based in the United States. It continues to be a vital component of the GPUOpen ecosystem, ensuring that new graphics features and hardware capabilities are accessible to the broader development community.
