Honor was established in 2013 as a sub-brand of Huawei, focused on the budget and mid-range smartphone market with a heavy emphasis on online sales. The brand quickly grew into a major global competitor, known for offering high-end features at competitive price points. While originally dependent on Huawei's supply chain and engineering, the brand underwent a significant transformation in recent years.

In November 2020, to ensure its survival amidst trade restrictions facing its parent company, Honor was sold by Huawei to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology. This consortium of over 30 agents and dealers, backed by the Shenzhen government, now operates the company as a fully independent entity. Since the separation, Honor has reclaimed access to critical global supply chains, including Google Mobile Services and Qualcomm chipsets.

Today, Honor operates its own manufacturing facilities, most notably the Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park in Shenzhen. This center handles high-end production, testing, and quality control, while the brand also utilizes various contract manufacturers across China and other international regions to meet global demand.
