LU Ourson (Barny) soft sponge cake

LU Ourson, often known as Barny in other international markets, is a popular bear-shaped soft sponge cake with a chocolate or strawberry filling. The brand LU (Lefèvre-Utile) was founded in Nantes, France, in 1846 by Jean-Romain Lefèvre and Pauline-Isabelle Utile.

Originally a family-run heritage brand famous for its Petit Beurre biscuits, LU grew to become a global leader in the biscuit industry. Over the years, ownership shifted from Danone to Kraft Foods, and eventually to Mondelēz International in 2012. Today, LU products are manufactured across several sites in Europe, though much of the production for the French market remains concentrated in French factories to maintain the brand's local heritage.
