Motorola is one of the most iconic names in the history of telecommunications, originally founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1928 by brothers Paul and Joseph Galvin. In 2011, Motorola Inc. split into two independent companies: Motorola Solutions (focused on public safety and enterprise) and Motorola Mobility (focused on consumer devices). The mobility division was acquired by Google in 2012, which later sold the brand and handset business to the Chinese technology giant Lenovo in 2014. Since then, the brand has operated as a major subsidiary within Lenovo's Mobile Business Group, focusing on the Moto G, Moto E, and premium Razr and Edge series.

While the brand's heritage is rooted in the United States, its manufacturing operations are global. Motorola devices are primarily produced in facilities in China, India, and Brazil to serve various international markets. However, the company maintains a significant research and development presence in Chicago, where many of its high-end designs and engineering innovations are still conceptualized. Today, Motorola remains a key player in the global smartphone market under Lenovo's stewardship.
