Lee Cooper holds a distinguished position as the first authentic European denim brand. Established in 1908 by Morris Cooper and Louis Maister in the East End of London, the company began as M. Cooper (Overalls) Ltd, specializing in workwear for export. During the World Wars, the firm pivot to producing high-quality uniforms and flight suits for the British Armed Forces, solidifying its reputation for durable textile manufacturing.

Following World War II, the brand was rechristened Lee Cooper and shifted its focus toward the burgeoning youth culture. It became a symbol of rebellion and fashion in the 1950s and 60s, famously introducing zip-front jeans for women and sponsoring iconic rock bands like the Rolling Stones. Today, the brand is a global lifestyle name with a presence in over 100 countries.

While originally a British manufacturing powerhouse, Lee Cooper transitioned into a licensing model. The brand is currently owned by the American brand management firm Iconix Brand Group. Consequently, manufacturing is decentralized and occurs in various locations including Bangladesh, India, Turkey, and Tunisia through a network of specialized licensed producers.
