Tempo is a historic brand of paper tissues, originally established in Germany in 1929 by the Vereinigte Papierwerke AG in Nuremberg. It became the first brand of high-quality, disposable paper handkerchiefs in the country, eventually becoming a generic trademark for tissues in German-speaking regions.
Over the decades, the brand underwent several changes in ownership. It was acquired by the American company Procter & Gamble in 1994, which later sold the brand to the Swedish hygiene and health company SCA in 2007. In 2017, SCA spun off its hygiene operations into a new global company called Essity. Today, Tempo products are primarily manufactured in Germany at sites like Neuss, while maintaining a strong market presence across Europe.
