Rügenwalder Mühle is one of Germany's most traditional food brands, dating back to a butcher shop founded by Carl Müller in Rügenwalde, Pomerania, in 1834. The brand is particularly famous for its 'Teewurst', a fine or coarse meat spread that gained popularity in the early 20th century. After World War II, the family relocated to Bad Zwischenahn, Lower Saxony, where production continues today.
In a significant shift for a traditional meat producer, Rügenwalder Mühle became a pioneer in the plant-based meat alternative market in Germany. In early 2024, it was announced that the family-owned company would be acquired by the French Pfeifer & Langen Industrie und Handels-KG. This acquisition integrates Rügenwalder into a larger portfolio that includes snacks and plant-based foods, ensuring its market position as the industry evolves toward sustainable protein sources.
