Oral-B is a global leader in oral hygiene, particularly famous for its pioneering work with electric toothbrushes. The brand can be traced back to 1950, when Dr. Robert W. Huston, a California periodontist, developed a new type of toothbrush with numerous fine, soft, nylon bristles. He Trademarked the name "Oral-B" in 1950.
Over the decades, the brand became synonymous with dental professional recommendations. In 1984, the brand was acquired by Gillette, which in turn brought it into partnership with Braun (a German company owned by Gillette at the time) for the development of electric toothbrush technology. This explains the "Designed by Braun" branding often seen on the packaging.
In 2005, Procter & Gamble acquired Gillette, making P&G the ultimate owner of the Oral-B brand. Today, manufacturing for toothbrush heads like the Sensitive Clean variety largely takes place in Germany, reflecting the Braun engineering heritage, though production can occur in various global facilities depending on the market and specific product line.
