Mackie, a cornerstone in the professional audio equipment world, was founded in Woodinville, Washington, in 1988 by Greg Mackie. Originally establishing its reputation with high-quality, affordable compact mixers, the brand quickly expanded into power amplifiers and studio monitors. The Creative Reference (CR) series shown in the image represents their successful leap into the multimedia and entry-level studio market, blending professional audio performance with consumer-friendly features like Bluetooth connectivity and localized volume controls.
Over the decades, the ownership of Mackie has shifted to reflect the consolidation of the audio industry. After being under the LOUD Audio (formerly LOUD Technologies) umbrella for many years, Mackie was acquired by RØDE (under the parent company Freedman Group) in late 2023. This acquisition solidified Mackie's place within a powerhouse portfolio of Australian-owned audio brands. While the engineering and design concepts often lean on their American history, the manufacturing is primarily centered in China to maintain price accessibility for musicians and content creators worldwide.
