Tropic Skincare was founded in 2004 by Susie Ma, who began by creating and selling a homemade body scrub at London's Greenwich Market. The brand gained significant national attention in 2011 after Susie's appearance on the UK version of 'The Apprentice', where she secured an investment from Lord Alan Sugar.
All Tropic products are freshly made in the UK at their Beauty Kitchen in Croydon, South London. The brand is known for its focus on natural, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients, often using exotic plants like the kangaroo paw flower found in the Glow Berry serum. The brand operates a social selling model through a network of thousands of independent 'Ambassadors' across the UK.
Historically, the brand was a 50/50 joint venture between Susie Ma and Lord Alan Sugar. However, in 2023, Susie Ma bought back Lord Sugar's shares to become the full owner of the company, ensuring the brand remains independently owned and operated by its original founder. This move has allowed the company to double down on its sustainability and ethical manufacturing commitments.
