INOV8 was founded in 2003 by Wayne Edy in Northern England's Lake District with a focus on creating lightweight, high-grip footwear for technical off-road running. The brand quickly gained a cult following for its minimalist approach and innovation, such as the introduction of Graphene-Grip in its outsoles. While the brand was originally born in the rugged terrains of the United Kingdom, its manufacturing is primarily conducted in specialized footwear factories across Asia to meet global demand.
Ownership of the brand has transitioned over the years. In 2015, the Japanese sportswear giant Descente acquired INOV8 to expand its portfolio of athletic brands. However, in 2024, the founder Wayne Edy regained control of the company, and it later saw investment and acquisition activities involving private equity and specialized holdings. Today, INOV8 remains headquartered in the UK, operating as a distinct specialist brand in the outdoor and fitness market with a renewed focus on its heritage of technical innovation.
