Don Papa Baroko is a premium spirit drink produced on the island of Negros in the Philippines, a region famously known as 'Sugarlandia' due to its rich volcanic soil and history of high-quality sugarcane production. The brand was founded in 2012, inspired by the story of Dionisio Magbuelas, known locally as 'Papa' Isio, a hero of the Philippine Revolution. The Baroko expression is distinct for being aged in American oak barrels and and then blended to produce a rich, viscous liquid with strong notes of vanilla and candied fruits.
In early 2023, the brand gained international attention when it was acquired by the British multinational spirits giant Diageo. This acquisition marked a significant milestone for Philippine spirits, moving the brand from a boutique independent label to being part of a global portfolio alongside names like Johnnie Walker and Tanqueray. Despite the change in ownership, the production remains deeply rooted in the Philippines, utilizing the local 'black gold' molasses and the unique aging conditions of the foothills of Mount Kanlaon.
