Pantene is a globally recognized hair care brand that originated in Switzerland in 1945. It was founded by the pharmaceutical company Hoffmann-La Roche, which named the brand after panthenol, a pro-vitamin B5 ingredient discovered to have healing properties for hair. Originally positioned as a premium European beauty secret, the brand was sold in glass bottles and targeted high-end consumers.

In 1985, Pantene was acquired by Richardson-Vicks, which was subsequently purchased by the American multinational Procter & Gamble (P&G) later that same year. Under P&G's ownership, Pantene shifted from a niche pharmaceutical product to a mass-market leader. The brand became iconic in the late 1980s and 1990s through memorable advertising campaigns such as "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" and the launch of the Pantene Pro-V formula. Today, Pantene is manufactured in various Procter & Gamble facilities worldwide, including locations in North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, to supply its vast global market.
