Malaco Fruity Drops are a popular sweet snack within the Swedish confectionery market. The Malaco brand carries a long heritage in the Nordic region, having been founded in Sweden in 1934. The name itself is an acronym for Malmö Lakrits Compani, reflecting its historical roots in Malmö, where it originally specialized in licorice products.
Today, the brand is owned by Cloetta, a leading confectionery company in Northern Europe. While the brand remains deeply Swedish in identity and consumer perception, manufacturing for most Malaco bagged candy has been moved to Cloetta's centralized production facilities outside of Sweden, primarily in Slovakia. This move was part of a larger structural reorganization to optimize production for the European market while maintaining the original recipes and Scandinavian branding.
