The Toyota Glanza is a premium hatchback specifically designed for and sold in the Indian market. It was first introduced in 2019 as the result of a strategic partnership between Toyota and Suzuki. This collaboration allows for 'cross-badged' models where vehicles developed by one company are sold under the other's brand name. The Glanza is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, though it features distinct Toyota-specific styling elements on the exterior and interior.
Manufacturing of the Toyota Glanza takes place in India at Suzuki Motor Gujarat's manufacturing facility. This arrangement is part of the global agreement where Suzuki supplies certain vehicle models to Toyota. Despite being based on a Suzuki platform, the vehicle is sold and serviced through Toyota's extensive dealership network in India, backed by Toyota's own warranty and after-sales service standards.
The Glanza brand is owned by the Toyota Motor Corporation, which is headquartered in Japan. While the vehicle is built by Suzuki in India, the intellectual property of the 'Glanza' name and the brand equity within the Indian market belong to Toyota's local subsidiary. It remains a key part of Toyota's strategy to capture the mass-market hatchback segment in South Asia through collaborative engineering and local production.
