Lipton is one of the world's most recognized tea brands, originally founded in Scotland in 1890 by Sir Thomas Lipton. Known for its innovation, the brand popularized the tea bag and more recently introduced the 'Pyramid' sachet design to allow better water flow through tea leaves and herbs. Manufacturing for the European market is predominantly centered in plants situated in Poland and the United Kingdom.
Following a major corporate restructuring by its long-time parent Unilever, the brand was transitioned into a new tea-focused entity. Today, Lipton is owned by Liptea (formerly ekaterra), which was acquired from Unilever by the global private equity firm CVC Capital Partners. This shift marked a significant change in the brand's history, moving from a multi-sector conglomerate to a specialized company dedicated entirely to the tea industry.
