Sandoz is a global powerhouse in the pharmaceutical industry, recognized as a leader in generic medicines and biosimilars. The brand's heritage dates back to 1886 when it was founded by Alfred Kern and Edouard Sandoz in Basel, Switzerland, initially as a chemical company focused on dyes before pivoting to medicinal substances in 1895.

For much of its modern history, Sandoz was a core division of the Swiss multinational Novartis, formed in 1996 through the merger of Sandoz AG and Ciba-Geigy. In October 2023, Sandoz officially completed its spin-off from Novartis to become an independent, publicly traded entity listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. This transition allowed Sandoz to sharpen its focus on expanding access to affordable healthcare while pursuing specialized growth in the biosimilars market.
