Yoplait is a globally recognized dairy brand with a rich heritage originating in France. It was established in 1965 through a collaboration of six regional dairy cooperatives, choosing the name by combining the names of two of the most popular member cooperatives: Yola and Coplait. The brand is famously represented by the little flower logo, which symbolizes the six founding cooperatives that brought the business to life. This specific product, identified as a French Vanilla low-fat yogurt in a 6 oz container, is part of the 'Original' line which has been a staple in North American grocery stores for decades.

Ownership of Yoplait is unique due to its international expansion history. While the brand originated in France and remains headquartered there under Sodiaal (Société de Diffusion Internationale Agro-Alimentaire), the North American rights were licensed to General Mills in the late 1970s. In 2011, General Mills acquired a controlling interest in the worldwide brand. However, in recent years, there has been a significant restructuring: in 2021, General Mills and Sodiaal completed a transaction where General Mills traded its interest in Yoplait's European operations to Sodiaal in exchange for full ownership of the brand in the United States and Canada, plus a reduced royalty rate for using the brand globally.

In the United States, where this specific '6 oz' packaging format is standard, the product is manufactured domestically by General Mills. The brand continues to be a market leader in the yogurt category, focusing on creamy textures and a variety of dessert-inspired flavors while maintaining its image as a convenient source of calcium and vitamins.
