Benylin is a long-standing brand in the consumer healthcare sector, primarily known for its range of cough and cold remedies. The brand originated in the United States, developed by the pharmaceutical company Parke-Davis (which later became part of Pfizer). Over the decades, it has become one of the most recognized over-the-counter medicine brands globally, particularly in the UK and European markets.
Following a series of corporate acquisitions, the brand was owned by Pfizer's consumer healthcare division until 2006, when it was sold to Johnson & Johnson. In 2023, Johnson & Johnson spun off its consumer health business into a new independent company called Kenvue. As a result, Benylin is now an flagship product under the Kenvue umbrella.
Manufacturing of Benylin products occurs in multiple locations across Europe and North America to serve regional markets. In the UK, distribution and local marketing are managed by McNeil Products Limited, which is a subsidiary of Kenvue. The products often contain active ingredients like Guaifenesin and Levomenthol to treat chesty coughs and congestion.
