Guylian is a world-renowned Belgian chocolatier most famous for its iconic chocolate seashells and seahorses. Founded in 1958 by Guy Foubert and his wife Liliane, the brand name is a portmanteau of their first names. The company gained global recognition for its unique hazelnut praliné filling, which is still produced in-house in Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, using traditional copper kettles.
While the brand maintains its artisanal Belgian heritage and production facility in Sint-Niklaas, the ownership has changed over the years. In 2008, the South Korean conglomerate Lotte Confectionery (now Lotte Wellfood) acquired Guylian as part of its international expansion strategy. Today, Guylian remains a subsidiary of Lotte Wellfood, blending traditional Belgian craftsmanship with the resources of a global confectionery giant. The brand is also well-known for its commitment to sustainability, specifically through its partnership with Project Seahorse and its move to use 100% Fairtrade-certified cocoa.
