Um Bongo is a popular fruit juice drink originally created by Nestlé in the United Kingdom in 1983. The brand became famous for its catchy commercial jingle and jungle-themed branding. In Portugal, the brand took on a life of its own and became a massive market success, leading to its eventual acquisition by the Portuguese beverage giant Sumol + Compal.
The product shown is specifically the 1L carton format. Since 2003, the brand rights for the Portuguese market (and several other territories) have been owned and managed by Sumol + Compal. While the brand originated in the UK, the production for the Portuguese and Spanish markets is centered in Portugal at Sumol + Compal's manufacturing facilities. The ultimate owner, Sumol + Compal, is headquartered in Carnaxide, Portugal, and remains one of the largest non-alcoholic beverage companies in the Iberian Peninsula.
