Beeline is a prominent telecommunications brand that originated in Russia during the early 1990s. It was launched by CJSC Vimpel-Communications (VimpelCom) in Moscow and became one of the first and most recognizable cellular service providers in the country, famously identified by its black-and-yellow striped branding.
Over the decades, the brand expanded its footprint across various CIS countries and international markets. The ownership structure evolved significantly through a series of mergers and complex international investments. In the 2010s, it became part of the VEON Group (formerly VimpelCom Ltd.), a global digital operator headquartered in the Netherlands.
In a major shift occurring between 2022 and 2024, VEON completed the sale of its Russian operations, including the Beeline brand, to members of the local management team. This transaction effectively returned the brand to domestic ownership under PJSC VimpelCom, separating the Russian business from its former international parent company due to the shifting geopolitical and economic landscape. Today, Beeline operates as a major independent entity within the Russian telecom sector, providing mobile connectivity, fiber-optic internet, and digital media services.
