Bionade is a pioneering German organic soft drink brand, famously invented in 1994 by Dieter Leipold in Ostheim vor der Rhön. Unlike traditional sodas, it is produced through the fermentation of water and malt using a biological process that converts sugar into gluconic acid rather than alcohol, resulting in a less sweet and healthier flavor profile.
Historically belonging to the Peter brewery family, the brand gained massive popularity in the early 2000s as a lifestyle beverage. After a period of ownership by the Dr. Oetker-affiliated Radeberger Group, the brand was acquired by Hassia Gruppe in 2018. The beverage continues to be manufactured in its original home of Ostheim, maintaining its regional roots while being distributed internationally.
