Its name is an acronym for 'The Unique Cracker', chosen after a founder saw the abbreviation 'T.U.C.' for 'Trade Union Congress' in a newspaper.

Over the decades, ownership of the brand shifted through several major food conglomerates. It was part of the Lu brand under the Danone Group for many years. Today, TUC is owned by Mondelēz International, a world leader in snacking. Manufacturing occurs in various locations across Europe and beyond, including major facilities in Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom, to supply international markets.
