Twisties Minis Cheese is a mini version of the iconic Australian extruded snack. The brand was originally created in Australia in 1950 by Melbourne businessman Isador Magid, who utilized a rotary head extruder imported from the United States. Following initial manufacturing challenges, Magid received technical assistance from the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) to perfect the recipe and production process, making it one of the first extruded snacks in the Australian market.

In 1955, the brand was sold to the Lea brothers of the famous Darrell Lea confectionery company. Through various acquisitions over the decades—including ownership by General Foods Corporation and later Amatil—Twisties eventually became a hallmark brand of The Smith's Snackfood Company. In 1998, Smith's was acquired by Frito-Lay, a division of the American multinational PepsiCo, which remains the ultimate owner today. The product is primarily manufactured in Australia, specifically distributed by The Smith's Snackfood Company (a subsidiary of PepsiCo/Frito-Lay).
