Bauvais is a historic Danish brand that has become a staple in Scandinavian households. Founded in 1847 by the Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Desiré Bauvais, the brand revolutionized food preservation in Denmark. What began as a small canning factory in Copenhagen eventually grew into a national icon, known specifically for its iconic red cabbage, tomato ketchup, and various pickled vegetables.

Over the decades, the brand transitioned from a family-owned business to a component of larger industrial groups. In 1995, it was acquired by the Norwegian conglomerate Orkla, which remains the ultimate owner today. While the brand maintains its strong Danish identity and heritage, parts of its manufacturing are handled across specialized Orkla facilities in Northern and Eastern Europe to optimize production, though many core products continue to be associated with Danish culinary traditions.

Today, Bauvais operates under Orkla Foods Denmark, a subsidiary of Orkla ASA. The brand continues to focus on high-quality condiments and prepared vegetables, maintaining its position as one of the most recognized food labels in the Danish retail market.
