Originally developed as a nutritional malt extract by Dr. Albert Wander in Bern, Switzerland, it transformed into a global icon for energy and vitality. This specific product, the Ovomaltine Crunchy chocolate bar, combines classic Swiss milk chocolate with crunchy malt granules.

While the brand is marketed globally, the European 'Ovomaltine' variants are largely produced in Switzerland, specifically at the Wander AG facility in Neuenegg. Despite many international branches of the brand being sold to various conglomerates over the years, the heart of the brand remains Swiss. Today, the brand is owned by Associated British Foods (ABF), which acquired the European activities of Wander AG from Novartis in 2002.
