Metz is a historic German manufacturer of consumer electronics, founded in 1938 by Paul Metz in Zirndorf, Germany. Originally known for its high-quality radio and flash units, the brand became a synonym for premium 'Made in Germany' televisions. In 2015, following insolvency proceedings, the company was split into two separate entities. The television division was acquired by the Chinese electronics giant Skyworth, leading to the formation of Metz Consumer Electronics GmbH.
Under Skyworth's ownership, the brand maintains two distinct product lines: 'Metz Classic,' which remains engineered and primarily manufactured at the original Zirndorf site to preserve its premium heritage, and 'METZ blue,' a more globally focused brand that utilizes Skyworth's international production networks. This dual strategy allows the brand to leverage German precision engineering while benefiting from the scale of one of the world's largest television manufacturers.
