Cheetos is one of the world's most recognizable snack brands, famous for its cheesy flavor and crunchy texture. The brand was originally invented in 1948 by Charles Elmer Doolin, the same entrepreneur who founded Frito. The product was first developed at the Frito Company’s research laboratory in Dallas, Texas, and quickly became a staple in the American snack market.
Following the 1961 merger of the Frito Company and H.W. Lay & Company, Cheetos became a core brand under the Frito-Lay umbrella. In 1965, Frito-Lay merged with Pepsi-Cola to form PepsiCo, which remains the ultimate owner today. While the brand originated in the United States, Cheetos are now manufactured in multiple countries around the world to serve local markets, including facilities in Mexico, the United Kingdom, and various regions across Asia and Europe, often tailoring flavors to local tastes.
